Project Description
Like so many before him, Ellis was in awe of the Northern New Mexican landscape. At first, Ellis was intimidated as never having really dabbled in landscape, the scenery did not make sense. One day, Ellis looked out across the fields below him and they became like the floorboards from his studio in Albuquerque. Ellis’s unique approach to the landscape of Taos placed the scenery into tidy rhombus shapes as a shaped canvas or floating on a clean background. From 1990-2002, Ellis would begin his post-retirement career as the Director of the Harwood Museum in Taos, furthering his undying commitment to painting the landscape.
